Approximately 25 Gilman alumni from across the United State are selected each year to be ambassadors and they serve for one year. What do Gilman Alumni Ambassadors do?Alumni Ambassadors represent the Gilman Program to various audiences, including prospective applicants, college/university staff, and the general public. Alumni Ambassadors also build a sense of community among Gilman Alumni in their region and nationally through in-person and online engagement. For example, the 2020-2021 Alumni Ambassadors organized informational virtual presentations at universities and colleges across the United States, participated in Gilman Program Ask Me Anything sessions, organized Alumni Virtual Networking hours, mentored new Gilman Scholars through the Gilman Scholar Network, and wrote blog posts on the Gilman Global Experience blog. What are the Gilman Alumni Ambassador time commitments?Alumni Ambassadors should expect to spend approximately 3-5 hours per month on Alumni Ambassador activities. Activities such as informational presentations, application workshops, webinars, and Ask Me Anything sessions occur Monday-Friday during the day. Alumni Ambassadors are expected to attend a 1-hour monthly check-in meeting with the Gilman team and other ambassadors. Alumni Ambassadors will receive training in July 2021 and be provided opportunities for professional development throughout the year. Applicants who work should carefully consider their availability during the workweek and how they will balance their role as an Alumni Ambassador with their work schedule. There is a need for five 2021-2022 Alumni Ambassadors to serve as Digital Representatives. The Digital Representatives are tasked with posting job opportunities, events, and other opportunities to the Gilman Scholar Network on a regular basis, as well as actively engaging with other scholars and alumni on the Gilman Scholar Network a minimum of eight times per month.
